Description

DURAN® ground joint socket NS 71/51 is a precision-ground conical joint sleeve manufactured from borosilicate glass 3.3 for use in laboratory glass apparatus construction. The conical ground joint is the most common connection type in glass apparatus building. These ground sockets correspond in design to DIN 12249 Form E and satisfy higher requirements regarding surface roughness. Consequently, joint grease demand is reduced and the risk of seizing is lowered. Ground joint connections should in principle be used with joint grease or PTFE sleeves. KECK™ conical joint clamps are the perfect addition for securing the conical ground joint. Distinctive properties include a finer ground quality with reduced roughness depth, minimised grease requirement, very low leak rate and a tight seal via the standard ground joint. Available as a glass article for further processing from manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences, this component is designed for installation in glass apparatus and devices. Supplied as one piece with a net weight of 0,276 kg and matching gross weight of 0,276 kg, it supports reliable assembly of laboratory glassware systems requiring standardised NS 71/51 joints.

This article is part of Distillation heads, adapters & columns, in Distillation & extraction glassware.

Questions about DURAN® Standard Socket finished

What is this article?

DURAN® Standard Socket finished is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Distillation heads, adapters & columns, inside Distillation & extraction glassware, in Labware.

A still head, an adapter or a column is the glass between the boiling flask and the condenser. A Vigreux or packed column gives the vapour a surface so a closer-boiling mixture can separate. The joint sizes at both ends have to match the flask and the condenser.

Distillation separates liquids by boiling point. A condenser turns the vapour back into liquid: Liebig, coil and cold-finger shapes differ in how much cooling surface they offer. A still head and a column sit between the flask and the condenser. A Soxhlet extractor washes a solid again and again with the same solvent. Ground joints have a standard size, and the joint, not the flask, is what has to match. The pieces are indexed under ISO laboratory glassware.
