Description
Metallurgical microscope KERN OKO 178 is a fully equipped reflected- and transmitted-light system for professional metal and surface analysis. The combination of LED incident and LED transmitted illumination, together with a centrable, height-adjustable 1,25 Abbe condenser and field diaphragm, supports complete Köhler illumination for demanding contrast work. An open mechanical cross stage is fitted as standard, providing ample space for opaque or thick specimens, workpieces, fracture edges and coatings. A simple polarisation unit with analyser and polariser is included in the delivery. Optional eyepieces and long-working-distance objectives extend the configuration to suit varied sample geometries. Camera coupling requires a C-mount adapter. Typical application areas are metallurgy, materials testing and industrial quality assurance. The instrument from manufacturer Kern is supplied with a dust cover, eyecups and a multilingual operating manual. Net weight is 12 kg. Pack size is 1 pc.
This article is part of Light & fluorescence microscopes, in Microscopy & histology.

Questions about Metallurgical Microscope KERN OKO 178
What is this article?
Metallurgical Microscope KERN OKO 178 is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Kern for laboratory use. It sits in Light & fluorescence microscopes, inside Microscopy & histology, in Lab instruments.
A light microscope looks through a thin specimen. A fluorescence microscope adds a light source and filters matched to a dye, so only the labelled structure shows. The filter set has to match the dye's excitation and emission. A bright-field microscope without those filters cannot do that experiment.
A light microscope forms an image with glass lenses and transmitted or reflected light. A stereo microscope is the lower-magnification instrument for dissecting and for looking at a surface. Fluorescence needs a light source and filters matched to the dye. Histology is the preparation that makes a tissue readable: fixation, a cassette, a section, a stain. The objective's magnification and numerical aperture decide the resolution. The slide and the cover glass decide whether the section sits in the focal plane. Stains and dyes as substances are identified on PubChem. Papers on the methods are on PubMed.
