Description

Phase separation paper grade 480 is a silicone-impregnated, hydrophobic laboratory paper for separating aqueous and organic phases. Water is retained on the sheet while the solvent can pass through; flow stops automatically once the entire solvent phase has run through. In many applications this behaviour replaces the need for a separating funnel, simplifying liquid–liquid work-up at the bench. The grade is supplied in a pack of 100 pieces, with a net weight of 0,047 kg and a gross weight of 0,073 kg. Non-sterile and intended for room-temperature storage, it suits general laboratory phase-separation tasks rather than aseptic processes. Manufactured in Germany and available from Sartorius, grade 480 phase separation paper supports solvent recovery, extract work-up and related filtration steps where selective passage of the organic phase is required. The hydrophobic silicone treatment underpins reliable water retention and controlled solvent throughput. This consumable offers a practical sheet format for routine organic–aqueous separations in research and analytical laboratories.

Questions about Phase separator paper / Grade 480

What is this article?

Phase separator paper / Grade 480 is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Sartorius for laboratory use. It sits in Filtration accessories, inside Filtration, in Lab consumables.

Filtration accessories are the holders, the gaskets, the manifolds and the flasks a membrane or a Büchner setup needs. A holder for 47 mm discs does not clamp a 25 mm disc. The gasket is what actually seals.

Filtration holds back what is larger than the pores and lets the rest through. Paper is the ordinary laboratory filter. A membrane has a stated pore size and a polymer that must survive the solvent. A syringe filter is that membrane in a housing on a syringe. Glass fibre takes a higher dirt load. Ultrafiltration holds back macromolecules and passes salts. The pore size, the chemical compatibility and the volume are the three choices. Laboratory apparatus around filtration is indexed under ISO laboratory apparatus.
