Description
Photometer for free chlorine and ultra-high total chlorine is a portable, battery-operated instrument for dual-range photometric chlorine analysis in water. Free chlorine is measured from 0,00 to 5,00 mg/L as Cl2 at 0,01 mg/L resolution, while total chlorine covers 0 to 500 mg/L as Cl2 at 1 mg/L resolution, supporting high-level disinfection control in industrial washing, food processing and medical-device applications. Accuracy at 25 °C is ±0,03 mg/L ±3 % of reading for free chlorine and ±3 mg/L ±3 % of reading for total chlorine. The sealed optical system uses an LED and narrow-band filter at 525 nm with a silicon photocell detector and a fixed-position holder for round 24,6 mm cuvettes. Methods are adapted from EPA 330.5 DPD (free chlorine) and Standard Methods 4500-Cl (total chlorine). This HI97xxx-series meter from manufacturer Hanna Instruments offers CAL CHECK™ verification with NIST-traceable standards, tutorial guidance, GLP last-calibration recall, storage of the last 50 results, reaction timer, battery indicator and automatic shut-off. Compatible with both liquid and powder DPD reagents. The instrument is supplied in a carrying case with measuring cuvette; reagents and CAL CHECK™ standards are ordered separately as required.

Questions about Portable Photometer f. Free Chlorine & UHR Total Chlorine + Cal Check
What is this article?
Portable Photometer f. Free Chlorine & UHR Total Chlorine + Cal Check is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Hanna Instruments for laboratory use. It sits in Photometers & spectrophotometers, inside Spectroscopy & photometry, in Lab instruments.
A photometer reads absorbance at one or a few wavelengths. A spectrophotometer scans or selects many. Both send light through a cuvette or a well. The wavelength range, UV or visible, and the bandwidth decide what can be measured. A visible-only instrument cannot read a nucleic acid at 260 nm.
A photometer or spectrophotometer sends light through a sample and reads how much was absorbed. In the range where the Beer–Lambert relation holds, absorbance tracks concentration. A refractometer reads how a liquid bends light, which tracks dissolved solids. A polarimeter reads the rotation of polarised light, the classical measurement for sugars. The lamp, the wavelength and the cuvette path length are the three things that have to be right before the number means anything. The optical quantities trace to NIST and the BIPM.
