Description
Nitrite High Range Photometer HI97708C is a portable, battery-powered instrument for determining nitrite ion concentrations in water up to 150 mg/L (ppm). Based on an iron sulfate method, nitrite ions form a green-brown colour complex that is measured at 575 nm, supporting reliable checks in aquaculture, drinking water, ponds and lakes, industrial samples and cooling-tower water where controlled nitrite levels help limit corrosion. The advanced optical system uses an LED with a narrow-band interference filter (wavelength accuracy ±1,0 nm, bandwidth 8 nm) and is sealed against dust, dirt and water; cuvettes seat consistently in the holder for repeatable readings. Round cuvettes of 24,6 mm outer diameter (22 mm inner) and a silicon photodetector complete the optical path. This dedicated photometer from manufacturer Hanna Instruments belongs to the HI97xxx series and includes CAL CHECK™ with NIST-traceable standards for on-demand performance verification and recalibration, plus a step-by-step tutorial mode, German menu guidance, GLP recall of the last calibration, automatic storage of the last 50 results, built-in reaction timer, battery-level indicator and auto-off. The kit is supplied in a transport case with two capped measuring cuvettes, plastic cuvette inserts, CAL CHECK™ standards, scissors, cuvette cleaning cloth, three 1,5 V AA batteries, instrument quality certificate and operating instructions.

Questions about Portable Photometer for Nitrite HR with CAL Check standards
What is this article?
Portable Photometer for Nitrite HR with CAL Check standards is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Hanna Instruments for laboratory use. It sits in Photometers & spectrophotometers, inside Spectroscopy & photometry, in Lab instruments.
A photometer reads absorbance at one or a few wavelengths. A spectrophotometer scans or selects many. Both send light through a cuvette or a well. The wavelength range, UV or visible, and the bandwidth decide what can be measured. A visible-only instrument cannot read a nucleic acid at 260 nm.
A photometer or spectrophotometer sends light through a sample and reads how much was absorbed. In the range where the Beer–Lambert relation holds, absorbance tracks concentration. A refractometer reads how a liquid bends light, which tracks dissolved solids. A polarimeter reads the rotation of polarised light, the classical measurement for sugars. The lamp, the wavelength and the cuvette path length are the three things that have to be right before the number means anything. The optical quantities trace to NIST and the BIPM.
