Description
Photometer for low-range nitrite is a portable battery-operated meter for determining nitrite-nitrogen from 0 to 600 µg/L (as NO2-N) in aqueous samples. Within the HI97xxx series it employs a sealed LED optical system and narrow-band filter at 466 nm with a silicon photocell detector, giving 1 µg/L resolution and accuracy of ±20 µg/L ±4 % of reading at 25 °C. The EPA-recommended diazotization method 354.1 produces a pink colour complex proportional to nitrite concentration. Suitable for drinking water, surface water, aquaculture, fish farming and cooling-tower monitoring where nitrite toxicity or corrosion control must be managed, the unit from manufacturer Hanna Instruments features CAL Check™ verification using NIST-traceable standards, an on-screen tutorial for sample preparation and reagent dosing, GLP last-calibration recall, automatic logging of the last 50 results, reaction timer, battery indicator and auto power-off. The IP67-rated housing works from 0 to 50 °C at up to 100 % relative humidity. The carrying-case kit includes two capped cuvettes, plastic inserts, CAL Check™ standards, scissors, cleaning cloth, three 1,5 V AA batteries, quality certificate and manual; reagents are supplied separately.

Questions about Portable Photometer for Nitrite LR with CAL Check standards
What is this article?
Portable Photometer for Nitrite LR with CAL Check standards is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Hanna Instruments for laboratory use. It sits in Photometers & spectrophotometers, inside Spectroscopy & photometry, in Lab instruments.
A photometer reads absorbance at one or a few wavelengths. A spectrophotometer scans or selects many. Both send light through a cuvette or a well. The wavelength range, UV or visible, and the bandwidth decide what can be measured. A visible-only instrument cannot read a nucleic acid at 260 nm.
A photometer or spectrophotometer sends light through a sample and reads how much was absorbed. In the range where the Beer–Lambert relation holds, absorbance tracks concentration. A refractometer reads how a liquid bends light, which tracks dissolved solids. A polarimeter reads the rotation of polarised light, the classical measurement for sugars. The lamp, the wavelength and the cuvette path length are the three things that have to be right before the number means anything. The optical quantities trace to NIST and the BIPM.
