Description

Rotor S-4x400, including four 400 mL round buckets, is a high-speed swing-bucket rotor with medium capacity for laboratory centrifugation. It is intended for the Centrifuge 5910 Ri and Centrifuge 5910 R and reaches a maximum relative centrifugal force of 5263 × g at 5100 rpm. A wide adapter range provides high flexibility for vessels and bottles from 0,2 mL to 400 mL, supporting many routine tube and bottle formats on one rotor platform. Optional aerosol-tight QuickLock caps are available for safer centrifugation of hazardous samples; aerosol tightness has been tested by Public Health England, Porton Down (United Kingdom). Buckets, caps and adapters are autoclavable. This configuration from manufacturer Eppendorf is supplied as one unit complete with the four round buckets. Net weight is 7 kg and gross weight is 7,650 kg, with a packaging volume of 0,023 m³. The S-4x400 combines medium-capacity swing-out operation, elevated maximum RCF and broad vessel flexibility through the available adapters for diverse laboratory centrifugation workflows.

This article is part of Rotors, in Centrifuges.

What is this article?

Rotor S-4x400,incl. 4x400mL round bucket is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Eppendorf for laboratory use. It sits in Rotors, inside Centrifuges, in Lab instruments.

A centrifuge rotor is the rotating part that holds the tubes, and it is rated for a maximum speed and a maximum load. A swing-out rotor and a fixed-angle rotor pellet differently. A rotor from another centrifuge does not belong on this drive, even when it seems to fit.

A centrifuge separates by density. The rotor spins the sample and the force is reported as a multiple of gravity, not as a raw speed, because the same revolutions per minute are a different force at a different radius. A microcentrifuge takes small tubes. A benchtop or floor model takes larger rotors. The tube, the adapter and the rotor have to be the combination the manufacturer rated. An unbalanced load is how centrifuges fail. Measurement of the related quantities sits with the BIPM.
