Description

T-SP-3, T spindle 3 is an individual T-spindle designed for rotational viscosity measurement of non-flowing samples. It operates exclusively in combination with the motorised HELISTAND stand together with the corresponding nut and coupling. The full T-SP-SET comprising nut and coupling is included in the HELISTAND set and in all ROTAVISC HELI packages. Used with the HELISTAND, T-spindles are especially suited to the measurement of samples that do not flow freely, for example creams, pastes or gelatin. Offered as a single unit from manufacturer IKA, the T-SP-3 enables laboratories to maintain or extend spindle capability on existing HELISTAND systems. Applications centre on quality control and product development in cosmetics, food science and pharmaceutical laboratories, where accurate characterisation of semi-solid and highly viscous materials is essential. The spindle profile supports reliable immersion and controlled travel through the sample under the motorised stand, providing reproducible viscosity information for non-Newtonian matrices encountered in everyday laboratory practice.

This article is part of Viscometers, in Density & viscosity measurement.

Questions about T-SP-3, T spindle 3

What is this article?

T-SP-3, T spindle 3 is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes IKA for laboratory use. It sits in Viscometers, inside Density & viscosity measurement, in Lab instruments.

A capillary viscometer times the flow of a liquid through a tube. A rotational viscometer twists a spindle in the liquid. Both need a stated temperature. Kinematic and dynamic viscosity are different numbers. The capillary size has to put the flow time in the range the method allows.

Density is mass divided by volume. A hydrometer floats at a depth that depends on the density of the liquid. A pycnometer is a vessel of known volume that is weighed full. Viscosity is the resistance to flow. A capillary viscometer times how long a volume takes to fall through a tube. Both measurements need a stated temperature, because liquids change density and viscosity as they warm. The units trace to the BIPM and to NIST.
