Description

HABITAT photo cell is a control unit package that converts a HABITAT research bioreactor into a photobioreactor for cell culture with photosynthetic organisms. Two LED panels provide the controlled light exposure needed for applications such as algae cultivation, biofuel production and carbon dioxide fixation. The complete system from IKA comprises the control tower with connections for gas supply, liquid addition, sensors and temperature regulation, plus a 10,4-inch tablet for clear, intuitive operation. Operators can select batch, fed-batch or perfusion/continuous modes and use chaotic mixing for homogeneous conditions when required. Four integrated mass flow controllers serve separate N2, O2, air and CO2 lines at flow rates from 0,01 to 2 L/min, with cascade control holding target values automatically. Four bidirectional Watson-Marlow pumps dose acids, bases, antifoam and feed solutions with high accuracy. Standard sensors monitor pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, fill level and foam, while PID control manages temperature for single- or double-walled glass vessels. Compact dimensions of 223 × 402 × 450 mm suit space-conscious laboratories.

This article is part of pH meters, in pH & electrochemistry.

Questions about HABITAT photo cell, Control unit package for photo bioreactor, cell culture

What is this article?

HABITAT photo cell, Control unit package for photo bioreactor, cell culture is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes IKA for laboratory use. It sits in pH meters, inside pH & electrochemistry, in Lab instruments.

A pH meter reads the electrode and displays pH, after calibration with at least two buffers. A meter that cannot be calibrated is a voltmeter. Resolution to 0.001 is not the same as accuracy. Portable and benchtop meters differ in the electrodes they accept and in the data they store.

A pH meter is a voltmeter on a glass electrode. The voltage tracks hydrogen-ion activity, and the electrode is converted to pH only after it is adjusted with buffers of known value. Conductivity measures how well a solution carries a current, which for dilute salts tracks concentration. Dissolved oxygen and titration are further electrodes on the same idea: a sensor, a standard, and a reading that is only as fresh as the calibration. Buffer values and chemical identity sit on PubChem. Accreditation of the calibration laboratory is the field of BELAC and EURAMET.
