Description

Optical dissolved oxygen probe for HI6421 is an optical DO sensor (opdo®) for the mains-powered oxygen meter HI6421 and operates on the fluorescence-quenching principle. An immobilised platinum-based luminophore is excited by blue LED light and emits red light; interaction with oxygen reduces luminescence intensity and lifetime, which a photodetector measures to calculate dissolved oxygen concentration. The probe uses easy-to-handle Smart Caps that store calibration data and transfer them automatically to the probe. Each Smart Cap holds an immobilised O2-sensitive luminophore behind a robust, insoluble black oxygen-permeable protective layer. Ageing of optical components is compensated by a reference signal, supporting accurate oxygen readings over long periods without frequent calibrations. Further characteristics include long stand times without recalibration, no oxygen consumption, no flow dependence, low maintenance, relative insensitivity to the sample matrix, and operation without membrane or electrolyte. From manufacturer Hanna Instruments, the probe includes a thermistor temperature sensor, IP68 protection, dimensions of 174 × 25 mm including protective cap, 45-second response time, a weighted 316 stainless-steel protective cap, polypropylene smart-cap material, and PVC cable sheathing. Supplied as 1 piece.

Questions about Optical Dissolved Oxygen Probe for HI6421

What is this article?

Optical Dissolved Oxygen Probe for HI6421 is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Hanna Instruments for laboratory use. It sits in Dissolved oxygen & multiparameter meters, inside pH & electrochemistry, in Lab instruments.

A dissolved-oxygen meter reads oxygen in a liquid, optically or with a Clark cell. A multiparameter meter adds pH, conductivity or both on one instrument. The sensor cap or the membrane is the consumable. A reading in air and a reading in water are different calibrations.

A pH meter is a voltmeter on a glass electrode. The voltage tracks hydrogen-ion activity, and the electrode is converted to pH only after it is adjusted with buffers of known value. Conductivity measures how well a solution carries a current, which for dilute salts tracks concentration. Dissolved oxygen and titration are further electrodes on the same idea: a sensor, a standard, and a reading that is only as fresh as the calibration. Buffer values and chemical identity sit on PubChem. Accreditation of the calibration laboratory is the field of BELAC and EURAMET.
