Description
PH8500-SL is a portable pH meter for determining pH, ORP (electrode available separately) and temperature, designed for rapid direct soil pH measurements. The supplied LabSen® 553 pH electrode has a pointed, robust glass membrane and a solid polymer electrolyte, allowing it to be inserted into soil without damage or diaphragm clogging; an integrated temperature sensor provides automatic temperature compensation (ATC). Protected by a silicone sleeve and rated IP57 for water and dust resistance, the instrument from manufacturer APERA Instruments is well suited to outdoor and harsh-field use, while a fold-out stand enables convenient indoor operation. The large backlit LCD simultaneously displays the measured value and temperature along with calibration information. Fast 1- to 3-point automatic calibration, self-diagnosis support, GLP data management with capacity for 500 data groups, and USB connectivity for data export or real-time logging are included. Technical data: pH range −2,00 to 16,00 (resolution 0,1/0,01; accuracy ±0,01 pH ±1 digit), mV ±2000, temperature 0 to 100 °C. Powered by 3× AA batteries or USB (DC 5 V). Complete set contains the PH8500 meter, LabSen® 553 electrode, calibration solutions (pH 4,00; 7,00; 10,01) 50 ml each, USB cable, PC-Link software, screwdriver, operating manual and carrying case. Meter dimensions 88×170×33 mm, weight 313 g.

Questions about PH8500-SL Portable pH Meter for Soils, with GLP Data Management
What is this article?
PH8500-SL Portable pH Meter for Soils, with GLP Data Management is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes APERA Instruments for laboratory use. It sits in pH meters, inside pH & electrochemistry, in Lab instruments.
A pH meter reads the electrode and displays pH, after calibration with at least two buffers. A meter that cannot be calibrated is a voltmeter. Resolution to 0.001 is not the same as accuracy. Portable and benchtop meters differ in the electrodes they accept and in the data they store.
A pH meter is a voltmeter on a glass electrode. The voltage tracks hydrogen-ion activity, and the electrode is converted to pH only after it is adjusted with buffers of known value. Conductivity measures how well a solution carries a current, which for dilute salts tracks concentration. Dissolved oxygen and titration are further electrodes on the same idea: a sensor, a standard, and a reading that is only as fresh as the calibration. Buffer values and chemical identity sit on PubChem. Accreditation of the calibration laboratory is the field of BELAC and EURAMET.
