Description

Silo and grain-store thermometer, solid-stem type, is a robust immersion instrument for temperature control in bulk storage of grain, silage and similar agricultural materials. It covers a measuring range from −38 °C to +50 °C with a 1 °C scale division in degrees Celsius, enabling clear reading of storage conditions. The prismatic capillary is yellow-backed and charged with a red special filling for high contrast against the scale. Construction comprises an upper section measuring 250 × 20 mm and a lower stem of 1000 × 9–10 mm, finished with a round cork seal that is fused closed. This solid-stem (Einschlussform) layout protects the capillary while allowing deep insertion into silos or grain heaps. Supplied as a single unit from manufacturer Amarell, the thermometer is suited to routine monitoring in farm stores, co-operative silos and commodity warehouses where durable, easy-to-read temperature indication is required. Origin is Germany (Bavaria). The design supports practical handling during periodic checks of stored bulk goods without complex electronics.

What is this article?

Silo and pit thermometer, enclosed scale, -38+50:1°C, capillary prismatic yellow is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Amarell for laboratory use. It sits in Laboratory glass thermometers, inside Temperature measurement, in Lab instruments.

A liquid-in-glass thermometer is a calibrated column, often with a stated immersion depth, total or partial. The range and the division decide the reading. A partial-immersion thermometer read at the wrong depth is wrong by design.

A thermometer reports a temperature. A liquid-in-glass thermometer is a calibrated column. A digital thermometer is a sensor and a display, and the sensor, not the display, is what is calibrated. An infrared thermometer reads a surface and depends on emissivity. A data logger stores the reading over time. Without a stated uncertainty and a calibration point, the number is only an indication. The scale is maintained by the BIPM and compared by EURAMET. Accreditation is BELAC.
