Description

Thermometer according to ASTM S62C is a solid-stem laboratory rod thermometer for low-temperature measurement from −38 °C to +2 °C with a fine scale division of 0,1 °C. The white-backed stem uses resistant colouring and finishes in a rounded closed top. A special inner capillary coating and non-wetting blue special filling support clear, stable readings along the scale. Nominal dimensions are approximately 401–411 × 7–8 mm; scientific specifications state a length of 411 mm and a diameter of 8 mm. The instrument is intended for total immersion use. Supplied as a single piece from Bavaria, Germany, this model from manufacturer Amarell is appropriate for ASTM-related, general laboratory and enclosed-stem temperature applications. Each thermometer is delivered with a works test certificate covering one test point, aiding traceable checks in cold-range analytical and process environments.

This article is part of Laboratory glass thermometers, in Temperature measurement.

What is this article?

Thermometer according to ASTM S62C, solid stem, -38+2:0,1°C, white backed, is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Amarell for laboratory use. It sits in Thermomètres en verre de laboratoire, inside Mesure de température, in Instruments de laboratoire.

A liquid-in-glass thermometer is a calibrated column, often with a stated immersion depth, total or partial. The range and the division decide the reading. A partial-immersion thermometer read at the wrong depth is wrong by design.

A thermometer reports a temperature. A liquid-in-glass thermometer is a calibrated column. A digital thermometer is a sensor and a display, and the sensor, not the display, is what is calibrated. An infrared thermometer reads a surface and depends on emissivity. A data logger stores the reading over time. Without a stated uncertainty and a calibration point, the number is only an indication. The scale is maintained by the BIPM and compared by EURAMET. Accreditation is BELAC.
