Analogue refractometer KERN ORA 4AA is a universal, maintenance-free handheld instrument for refractive index measurement in laboratory and industrial environments. Part of the KERN ORA-AL series, it features a compact, robust design suited to simple, efficient everyday use. Specially developed, precisely calculated scales with very thin, clear lines support low-tolerance readings, while the optical system and prism cover use materials chosen for reliable measuring performance. Automatic temperature compensation (ATC) enables accurate results across ambient temperatures from 10 °C to 30 °C. An adjustable eyepiece accommodates different visual acuities with smooth, straightforward focusing. This model is particularly intended for determining the sugar content of beer wort in the unfermented state; the degree Plato scale allows direct readout without conversion, making it well suited to brewery applications. Supplied ready for use from manufacturer Kern with a storage box, calibration solution, pipette, screwdriver and cleaning cloth; further accessories are available optionally. Pack size is 1 pc.

Questions about Analogue Refractometer KERN ORA 4AA
What is this article?
Analogue Refractometer KERN ORA 4AA is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes KERN for laboratory use. It sits in Refractometers & polarimeters, inside Spectroscopy & photometry, in Instrumenten.
A refractometer reads the refractive index of a liquid, often expressed as Brix for sugar. A polarimeter reads the rotation of polarised light. Both depend on temperature. A handheld refractometer and a thermostated benchtop instrument are different accuracies.
A photometer or spectrophotometer sends light through a sample and reads how much was absorbed. In the range where the Beer–Lambert relation holds, absorbance tracks concentration. A refractometer reads how a liquid bends light, which tracks dissolved solids. A polarimeter reads the rotation of polarised light, the classical measurement for sugars. The lamp, the wavelength and the cuvette path length are the three things that have to be right before the number means anything. The optical quantities trace to NIST and the BIPM.
