DURAN® baffled flask with GL 45 thread is a 250 ml culture flask made from borosilicate glass 3.3 and fitted with four baffles in the base. Supplied with membrane closure and pouring ring, the flask improves oxygen transfer during cultivation of microorganisms on shakers. The baffles interrupt laminar flow and create turbulence that enlarges the liquid surface and gas-exchange area; laboratory tests showed oxygen input doubles compared with a standard DURAN® Erlenmeyer flask. Fully automated manufacture ensures geometric reproducibility, while increased wall thickness provides excellent mechanical stability and long service life. A special two-stage process forms the complete threaded flask, enabling reliable sealing with the membrane closure for more reproducible gas exchange than cotton plugs. An easily readable graduated scale and permanently fired white print complete the design. From manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences, the flask supports growth and cultivation of microorganisms, nutrient-media preparation, and storage or transport of bacteria, yeasts, plant and animal cells. It suits liquid cultures on shakers; the GL 45 thread also accepts 30 mm culture stoppers or screw caps for media storage. Three sizes enable process scale-up. The membrane closure supports autoclaving processes while maintaining controlled gas exchange.
