Het bevat zes kationen in gedefinieerde concentraties in water: 0,1 mg/l NH4⁺, 0,1 mg/l Mn²⁺, 10 mg/l Mg²⁺, 10 mg/l Na⁺, 10 mg/l K⁺ en 100 mg/l Ca²⁺ in H2O. De waterige matrix ondersteunt routinematige multi-element kation-IC-methoden die worden gebruikt bij milieuanalyses, watertests en aanverwante laboratoriumwerkstromen.
