Description

Apparatus for determination of apparent density DIN EN ISO 3923-1 ASTM B964 Carney Funnel is a standardized stainless-steel setup for measuring the apparent density of metal powders under controlled funnel conditions. Powder flows through a defined nozzle into a receiving vessel of known volume; mass is then obtained by difference weighing. The method covers free-flowing powders that pass a 2,5 mm outlet and powders that require a 5,0 mm outlet. Material is stainless steel V4A (1.4305), non-magnetic and electropolished, with a high-gloss polished funnel surface. Supplied by manufacturer Landgraf HLL, the complete set includes the test funnel, interchangeable nozzles Ø 2,5 mm and Ø 5,0 mm, a 25 ml collecting vessel, stand with holding arm, scraper blade, 25 mm distance gauge, operating instructions and a sample test protocol. Normative references are metal powders — determination of apparent density — Part 1: funnel method (ISO 3923-1:2008; EN ISO 3923-1:2010) and ASTM B964-16 Carney funnel flow-rate methods. A precision balance (± 0,01 g) is required for the density calculation.

This article is part of Laboratory glass thermometers, in Temperature measurement.

Questions about Apparatus for determining the filling density DIN-EN-ISO-3923-1 ASTM B964

What is this article?

Apparatus for determining the filling density DIN-EN-ISO-3923-1 ASTM B964 is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Landgraf HLL for laboratory use. It sits in Density meters & pycnometers, inside Density & viscosity measurement, in Lab instruments.

A pycnometer is a vessel of known volume that is weighed full. An oscillating density meter infers density from how a tube vibrates when it is filled. Both need temperature control. Air bubbles are the ordinary error.

Density is mass divided by volume. A hydrometer floats at a depth that depends on the density of the liquid. A pycnometer is a vessel of known volume that is weighed full. Viscosity is the resistance to flow. A capillary viscometer times how long a volume takes to fall through a tube. Both measurements need a stated temperature, because liquids change density and viscosity as they warm. The units trace to the BIPM and to NIST.
