Description

Digital refractometer KERN ORL 94AL is a precise, universal and maintenance-free digital benchtop instrument designed for convenient refractive-index and concentration work in alcohol-related applications. Alongside the standard Brix and refractive-index scales, eight further scales dedicated to the alcohol sector are pre-installed, so measurements on samples such as beer or wine can be performed with a single device; scale changes are made simply at the push of a button. The instrument offers an extra-large measuring range and a high degree of accuracy, while its compact, handy construction supports fast everyday laboratory use. A large, clearly readable display with integrated temperature indication helps the operator determine the measured value reliably. Built-in automatic temperature compensation (ATC) removes the need for manual conversion of results, and mean-value measurements are supported. Rapid, user-friendly calibration is possible at any time with ordinary distilled water. Free OXR-Basic software for performing measurements and for storing and exporting results is available from the download area. Supplied from manufacturer Kern complete with pipette, storage case, USB cable, plug-in power supply, screwdriver and operating instructions, the unit has a net weight of 0,40 kg.

Questions about Digital Refractometer KERN ORL 94AL

What is this article?

Digital Refractometer KERN ORL 94AL is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Kern for laboratory use. It sits in Refractometers & polarimeters, inside Spectroscopy & photometry, in Lab instruments.

A refractometer reads the refractive index of a liquid, often expressed as Brix for sugar. A polarimeter reads the rotation of polarised light. Both depend on temperature. A handheld refractometer and a thermostated benchtop instrument are different accuracies.

A photometer or spectrophotometer sends light through a sample and reads how much was absorbed. In the range where the Beer–Lambert relation holds, absorbance tracks concentration. A refractometer reads how a liquid bends light, which tracks dissolved solids. A polarimeter reads the rotation of polarised light, the classical measurement for sugars. The lamp, the wavelength and the cuvette path length are the three things that have to be right before the number means anything. The optical quantities trace to NIST and the BIPM.
