Description

DURAN® mixing cylinder 250 ml with hexagonal base is a class A volumetric vessel featuring blue graduations and a batch certificate. Produced from borosilicate glass 3.3, it is intended for diluting solutions and mixing several components in defined volume ratios. The cylinder is adjusted to contain (In) at the +20 °C reference temperature. Uniform wall thickness over the complete measuring range avoids wedge errors. A large hexagonal foot with three bottom knobs ensures standing stability and prevents the cylinder from rolling away. An ergonomic polyethylene stopper allows rapid, secure opening and closing, while the NS 29/32 ground joint provides a tight seal. The durable blue scale is fired on and therefore permanently legible, combining line graduations with main-point ring marks. Volume tolerances meet class A limits according to DIN and ISO. Mixing cylinders of class A that carry a batch number are supplied with a batch certificate stating mean value, standard deviation and issue date; certificates are also available online. From manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences, the cylinder supports liquid volume measurement, solution dilution, multi-component mixing and general volumetric work. To safeguard longevity and exclude volume changes, these glass products should not be heated above +250 °C in drying ovens or sterilizers.

This article is part of Mixing cylinders, in Volumetric glassware.

Questions about DURAN® Mixing Cylinder, hexagonal base, Class A, blue scale, batch certificate

What is this article?

DURAN® Mixing Cylinder, hexagonal base, Class A, blue scale, batch certificate is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Mixing cylinders, inside Volumetric glassware, in Labware.

A mixing cylinder is a graduated cylinder with a stopper, so a dilute solution can be shaken in the vessel it was measured in. It is coarser than a volumetric flask and more convenient when many dilutions are made by hand.

Volumetric glassware is glass that has been calibrated to contain or to deliver one stated volume at a reference temperature. That calibration is the whole point. Class A and class AS have a tighter tolerance than class B. A volumetric flask contains. A pipette and a burette deliver. A measuring cylinder is the coarser reading, used when the volume is not the result. The classes sit under ISO laboratory glassware. The chain back to the unit of volume is the work of the BIPM and of NIST.
