Description

DURAN® Petri dish, pressed, with half division is a flat, round, transparent culture vessel of 100 mm diameter and 20 mm height made from borosilicate glass 3.3. Cultivation of microorganisms is commonly performed on a gel-like nutrient medium poured into such a dish; the solid gel prevents mixing of organisms and permits the growth of discrete colonies. Manufactured by a specialised pressing process, these dishes ensure even distribution of the nutrient medium and provide distortion-free optical clarity. The lid rests directly on the base, minimising air turbulence above the culture surface and making the dish especially suitable for long incubation periods, elevated temperatures or sensitive media. The half division facilitates fractional dilution streaking under identical conditions. Available from manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences in half-, third- and quarter-division versions as well as undivided forms, the pressed DURAN® Petri dish supports simultaneous cultivation on different media, growth of microorganisms on solid gels, microscopy and general cell-culture work.

Questions about DURAN® Petri Dish pressed

What is this article?

DURAN® Petri Dish pressed is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Petri dishes, inside Culture media & microbiology, in Microbiology lab supplies.

A Petri dish is the shallow lidded plate agar is poured into, or a sample is placed in. Diameter and whether it is vented, and whether it arrives sterile and empty or already filled, are the choices. A 90 mm dish is the ordinary one. Slippable lids and vented lids differ in how they dry a plate.

A culture medium is the food and the solid or liquid home of a microorganism. Dehydrated media are powders the laboratory dissolves and sterilises. Ready-to-use plates and tubes are already that. A Petri dish is the plate. Selective media let one kind of organism grow and hold another back. The formulation and the supplements, not the colour of the agar, are the specification. Reference strains are at ATCC. Methods are on PubMed. Biosafety practice is the WHO laboratory biosafety topic.
