Description

DUROPLAN® Petri dish with flat bottom and lid surfaces, bubble- and striae-free, is a transparent round culture vessel for cultivating microorganisms on gel-like nutrient media. The solid gel prevents mixing of microorganisms so that larger cell-culture colonies can develop. Manufactured from borosilicate glass 3.3 by a special process, the dish provides uniform nutrient-medium distribution and distortion-free optical clarity. Both base and lid are microscopically plane on the inner and outer surfaces and free of bubbles and striae. The lid rests directly on the base, minimising turbulence in the headspace; this design is therefore well suited to long incubation times, elevated temperatures or sensitive culture media. With a diameter of 150 mm and a height of 32 mm, the dish (Duran/DWK Life Sciences) is supplied as a single piece. Typical laboratory uses include growth and cultivation of microorganisms, culture on solid gel nutrient media, microscopy of microorganisms and general cell-culture work where optical quality and dimensional stability are required.

Questions about DUROPLAN® Petri Dish, lid and base with planar surface, bubbles and streaks free

What is this article?

DUROPLAN® Petri Dish, lid and base with planar surface, bubbles and streaks free is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Petri dishes, inside Culture media & microbiology, in Microbiology lab supplies.

A Petri dish is the shallow lidded plate agar is poured into, or a sample is placed in. Diameter and whether it is vented, and whether it arrives sterile and empty or already filled, are the choices. A 90 mm dish is the ordinary one. Slippable lids and vented lids differ in how they dry a plate.

A culture medium is the food and the solid or liquid home of a microorganism. Dehydrated media are powders the laboratory dissolves and sterilises. Ready-to-use plates and tubes are already that. A Petri dish is the plate. Selective media let one kind of organism grow and hold another back. The formulation and the supplements, not the colour of the agar, are the specification. Reference strains are at ATCC. Methods are on PubMed. Biosafety practice is the WHO laboratory biosafety topic.
