HABITAT photo ferment cct S003 is a control unit package with Swiss plug designed to turn a HABITAT Research bioreactor into a photobioreactor for light-integrated fermentation. Essential LED light panels provide the controlled illumination that photofermenters need to drive specific biochemical reactions and microbial activities, for example in pharmaceutical manufacture or enhancement of vitamins and useful metabolites in fermented foods. The compact tower measures 223 × 402 × 450 mm and, from manufacturer IKA, combines gas, liquid, sensor and temperature connections with a 10,4-inch tablet for intuitive process control. Users switch between batch, fed-batch and perfusion/continuous operating modes; chaotic mixing delivers homogeneous blending when required. Four individual mass flow controllers handle N2, O2, air and CO2 at 0,1–20 L/min, while cascade control automatically adapts gas flow to keep targets stable. Four bidirectional Watson-Marlow pumps dose acids, bases, antifoam and nutrients with high flexibility. Standard sensors monitor pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, level and foam; optional CO2, conductivity and turbidity sensors can be connected. Integrated PID temperature control works independently of vessel type and fill level and, with a suitable thermostat on double-walled vessels, covers 5–80 °C.
