Description

LabSen 851-H pH electrode is a specialised laboratory sensor for precise pH measurement of highly viscous samples with strongly basic character or elevated temperature. It employs the LabSen HA glass membrane, engineered for improved accuracy and reproducibility in strong alkaline media (pH 10–14) while minimising alkali error. The hemispherical membrane is robust and highly shock-resistant—up to ten times more durable than conventional designs—substantially lowering breakage risk during handling. A pre-pressurized reference system maintains steady electrolyte flow through the junction even with high-viscosity samples, supporting reliable readings where ordinary electrodes struggle. The silver-ion-trap reference further reduces contamination risk and helps extend electrode life. Built with patented Swiss sensor technology and materials from APERA Instruments, the unit features a gel KCl electrolyte, ceramic diaphragm and lead-free glass shaft (Ø12 × 120 mm). Connection is via BNC cable (Ø3 mm × 1 m), compatible with standard BNC pH meters. No temperature sensor is integrated; automatic temperature compensation requires a separate probe or manual entry. Measuring range is 0–14 pH; recommended operating temperature spans 0–130 °C.

What is this article?

LabSen 851-H pH Electrode, for Highly Viscous & Basic/High-Temp. Solutions is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes APERA Instruments for laboratory use. It sits in pH electrodes & sensors, inside pH & electrochemistry, in Lab instruments.

A pH electrode is a glass membrane and a reference. It is a consumable: the glass ages, the junction clogs, and the reading drifts. A refillable electrode and a gel electrode differ in how they are maintained. The connector has to match the meter. The electrode, not the meter, is usually what is wrong.

A pH meter is a voltmeter on a glass electrode. The voltage tracks hydrogen-ion activity, and the electrode is converted to pH only after it is adjusted with buffers of known value. Conductivity measures how well a solution carries a current, which for dilute salts tracks concentration. Dissolved oxygen and titration are further electrodes on the same idea: a sensor, a standard, and a reading that is only as fresh as the calibration. Buffer values and chemical identity sit on PubChem. Accreditation of the calibration laboratory is the field of BELAC and EURAMET.
