Description

LabSen 553 pH spear electrode with temperature sensor is an insertion pH electrode reinforced by a PVC housing for direct testing of semi-solid to solid samples such as soil, culture media, fruit and vegetables. Produced with patented Swiss sensor technology and materials from manufacturer APERA Instruments, it employs a LabSen S-type pointed low-impedance glass membrane that supplies fully stabilised readings in 15 to 30 seconds and is up to 10 times more robust than conventional electrodes, greatly reducing breakage risk on impact or penetration. Polymer electrolyte with open-pore diaphragm structure permits direct sample contact without clogging and requires no refilling. The long-life reference system (glass tube, AgCl and reference silver wire, cotton-filled) enhances reference stability and extends electrode lifetime. The durable, soil-resistant PVC housing supports reliable field and laboratory use. Measuring range is 0 to 14 pH; recommended operating temperature is 0 to 80 °C. Electrode dimensions are Ø15×90 mm with measuring tip Ø6×25 mm; diaphragm is ceramic plus single pore. Connection is BNC/RCA via Ø5 mm × 1 m cable. It is the replacement electrode for portable meters PH850-SL and PH8500-SL and is compatible with BNC pH meters. Pack size is 1 piece.

Questions about LabSen®553 Professional 3-in-1 pH/Temp. Electrode for Direct Soil pH

What is this article?

LabSen®553 Professional 3-in-1 pH/Temp. Electrode for Direct Soil pH is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes APERA Instruments for laboratory use. It sits in pH electrodes & sensors, inside pH & electrochemistry, in Lab instruments.

A pH electrode is a glass membrane and a reference. It is a consumable: the glass ages, the junction clogs, and the reading drifts. A refillable electrode and a gel electrode differ in how they are maintained. The connector has to match the meter. The electrode, not the meter, is usually what is wrong.

A pH meter is a voltmeter on a glass electrode. The voltage tracks hydrogen-ion activity, and the electrode is converted to pH only after it is adjusted with buffers of known value. Conductivity measures how well a solution carries a current, which for dilute salts tracks concentration. Dissolved oxygen and titration are further electrodes on the same idea: a sensor, a standard, and a reading that is only as fresh as the calibration. Buffer values and chemical identity sit on PubChem. Accreditation of the calibration laboratory is the field of BELAC and EURAMET.
