Description

Nalgene™ 870 tubing with 3/8 in. inner diameter and 1/2 in. (13 mm) outer diameter is a translucent, semi-rigid hose for transferring aggressive and corrosive chemical liquids in laboratory and process environments. Materials meet food-packaging requirements under 21 CFR 177.1520, so the tubing is suitable where food-contact compliance is needed alongside chemical service. A single roll provides 7,62 m (25 ft) of tubing with a 1/16 in. (0,16 cm) wall. Durometer hardness is 60(D) and the bend radius is specified as ten times the outer diameter, supporting semi-rigid installations with predictable flex behaviour. Maximum pressure is stated as 85 psig at 85 °C, and the maximum operating temperature is 260 °C. The product is autoclavable for routine sterilisation. This larger-bore Nalgene™ 870 size from manufacturer Thermo Scientific is supplied as one roll for fluid-transfer lines that need chemical resistance, thermal capability and a stable semi-rigid profile.

This article is part of PVC, PTFE & other tubing, in Tubing, hoses & fittings.

Questions about Nalgene™ 870 Tubing

What is this article?

Nalgene™ 870 Tubing is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Thermo Scientific - Laboratory Plastics for laboratory use. It sits in PVC, PTFE & other tubing, inside Tubing, hoses & fittings, in Labware.

PVC is the flexible everyday tube for water and mild aqueous liquids. PTFE is the stiff, almost inert tube for solvents. Other polymers sit between them. The bore, the wall and the chemical resistance are the specification, and the tube is cut to length.

Tubing is how a liquid or a gas moves between two vessels without being poured. Silicone stays flexible and survives repeated autoclaving. PTFE resists almost every solvent and is stiff. PVC is the ordinary flexible line for water and for mild aqueous work. The fitting, not the tube, is what usually leaks: the barb, the thread and the stopcock have to match the tube bore. Glass and plastic apparatus around these lines is indexed under ISO laboratory ware.
