Description

Nalgene™ wide-mouth bottles made of Teflon™ FEP with closure are temperature- and chemically resistant containers intended for trace-metal analyses and applications involving organic solvents. This size offers a nominal capacity of 500 ml (16 oz.) in a round wide-mouth format with a 38 mm inner neck diameter and a 48 mm neck finish. The natural translucent fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) bottle is supplied with a Tefzel ETFE screw closure; the closure is included and the assembly is autoclavable. Transparent appearance supports visual checks of contents during laboratory handling. Height with closure is given as 6,49 in. Dispensing through the closure is not provided on this type. Packed as a case of 4 pieces, the bottles serve solvent-resistant storage and sample work where FEP performance is required. The product line comes from manufacturer Thermo Scientific – Laboratory Plastics and fits routine analytical and chemical laboratory use needing a wide opening and secure screw-cap sealing.

A plastic bottle is polyethylene, polypropylene or a fluoropolymer, narrow-mouth for pouring or wide-mouth for powders. It is the choice when the bottle must not shatter, and it is the wrong choice for solvents that swell the plastic.

A laboratory bottle is a closed container with a stated volume and a neck that takes a cap, a stopper or a dispenser. Borosilicate glass is the choice when the liquid is a solvent, or when the bottle will be heated or autoclaved. Polyethylene and polypropylene are the choice when the bottle must not shatter, or when hydrofluoric acid would attack glass. A narrow mouth pours. A wide mouth is for powders and for reaching the bottom. Laboratory ware of this kind is indexed under ISO laboratory glassware. Traceable volume sits with the BIPM and NIST Physical Measurement.
