Description
ThinCert cell culture insert for 12-well plates is a sterile, tissue-culture-treated (TC) insert fitted with a transparent PET membrane of 3 µm pore diameter, for 12-well multiwell plates. Each carton contains 4 multiwell plates and 48 ThinCert inserts, so plates and inserts are packed as a set. The transparent polyethylene terephthalate membrane permits visual inspection of the culture, and the 3 µm pores allow exchange between the insert and the well beneath. TC treatment of the membrane supports adherent cell growth on the insert. This ThinCert 12-well type from manufacturer Greiner Bio-One is a sterile consumable for the cell-culture laboratory. Growing cells on a porous 3 µm PET membrane rather than on the plate bottom keeps an apical compartment above the membrane and a basal compartment below, with communication through the pores. A carton of 48 inserts plus 4 plates is intended for series that specify a 3 µm pore diameter. The TC-treated transparent PET membrane and 3 µm pore size constitute the working specification of this ThinCert insert.

Questions about THINCERT CELL CULTURE INSERT FOR 12 WELL PLATES, TC
What is this article?
THINCERT CELL CULTURE INSERT FOR 12 WELL PLATES, TC is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Greiner Bio-One for laboratory use. It sits in Cell strainers, inserts & scrapers, inside Cell culture, in Microbiology lab supplies.
A cell strainer is a sterile mesh, often 40 µm or 70 µm, that gives a single-cell suspension. An insert is a membrane cup that hangs in a well so two compartments share a medium. A scraper lifts adherent cells mechanically. Mesh size, pore size and sterility are the specification.
Cell culture grows cells outside the body. The medium, often with serum, supplies what the flask does not. A flask or a dish is the vessel, treated so the cells attach or left untreated so they float. Contamination by microbes, or by another cell line, is the ordinary failure. Cold-chain articles in this work, including serum, are never part of free standard delivery. Lines are catalogued by ATCC. Papers are on PubMed. Practice is summarised by the WHO laboratory biosafety topic.
