Sulphosalicylic acid is one of the best fixatives, all sorts of staining and silver plating can be followed. Generally a 5 % solution is used; it is often component of fixative mixtures. Fixing takes place in the dark during 6-24 h followed by thorough watering. Specimens are hardened optimal without shrinking.
