Description
DURAN® filter crucible, 50 ml, porosity 4 is a laboratory filter crucible intended for solid-liquid separation under vacuum. Equipped with an integrated glass sinter base, it serves directly as the filter medium and requires no additional filter paper. Unlike conventional stemmed filter funnels, this stemless design allows the crucible to stand securely on the laboratory bench and supports subsequent work steps such as drying the collected solid residue in a vacuum desiccator. The vessel body narrows toward the base, thereby reducing the risk of contaminating the rubber sleeve during filtration. Manufactured from DURAN® borosilicate glass 3.3 by Duran/DWK Life Sciences, it offers the proven chemical resistance and high thermal shock resistance associated with this glass type. A permanently fired white print provides durable, long-lasting identification. The crucible is well suited to qualitative analysis and preparative chemistry, enabling filtration under reduced pressure as well as separation and further processing of the filter residue. Compatible rubber sleeves and filter adapters are available separately.

Questions about DURAN® Filter Crucible
What is this article?
DURAN® Filter Crucible is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Crucibles, inside Dishes, crucibles & porcelain, in Labware.
A crucible holds a sample in a furnace or over a flame, at temperatures that would soften a borosilicate beaker. Porcelain, platinum and glazed ceramic are different articles. The form, tall or wide, decides how fast a sample dries or ashes.
A dish is an open vessel for drying, evaporating or holding a solid. Porcelain and glazed ceramic take a higher temperature than borosilicate glass, which is why a crucible, not a beaker, goes into a furnace. A watch glass covers, or holds a small amount for drying. A mortar is for grinding. The temperature and the chemical, not the shape alone, choose the material. Laboratory ware of this family is listed under ISO laboratory ware.
