Description

DURAN® filter disc featuring an unfused and centred rim with unfinished surfaces is a porous sintered-glass component for laboratory filtration applications. Formed by sintering glass powder of controlled grain-size distribution, the resulting rigid porous body functions effectively as filter material in disc form. Made from DURAN® borosilicate glass 3.3, it withstands aggressive chemical environments and is ideal for separations with strong acids or alkalis, outperforming many plastic or paper alternatives. This 25 mm diameter disc is supplied in porosity class 5 and forms part of a range of six porosity grades conforming to ISO 4796 and ASTM EI28-99. Optimal results depend on matching porosity so that the largest pore opening remains slightly smaller than the finest particles to be retained. The disc is suitable for vacuum filtration at a maximum differential pressure of 1 bar and is provided as a glass article for further processing. Available in a pack of 10 pieces from manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences, it supports consistent performance in demanding analytical and preparative procedures requiring chemical resistance and dimensional stability.

This article is part of Sintered glass filter plates & discs, in Filtration.

Questions about DURAN® Filter Disc, sintered glass, edge not fused, centred, surfaces untreated

What is this article?

DURAN® Filter Disc, sintered glass, edge not fused, centred, surfaces untreated is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Sintered glass filter plates & discs, inside Filtration, in Lab consumables.

A sintered glass filter is a disc of fused glass particles with a porosity grade, often 0 to 5, from coarse to fine. It is cleaned and reused. The porosity number, not a micrometre guess, is the specification. Hydrofluoric acid and strong alkali attack the glass.

Filtration holds back what is larger than the pores and lets the rest through. Paper is the ordinary laboratory filter. A membrane has a stated pore size and a polymer that must survive the solvent. A syringe filter is that membrane in a housing on a syringe. Glass fibre takes a higher dirt load. Ultrafiltration holds back macromolecules and passes salts. The pore size, the chemical compatibility and the volume are the three choices. Laboratory apparatus around filtration is indexed under ISO laboratory apparatus.
