Description

DURAN® Membrane Venting Screw Cap GL 45 with welded-in expanded PTFE membrane is a blue polypropylene screw closure designed for DURAN® Original GL laboratory bottles during sterilisation and storage of media or buffer solutions. Caps are normally left loose in the autoclave to speed heat-up and avoid pressure build-up up to 400 kPa; sealing them tightly right after the cycle can produce a vacuum on cooling that risks breakage, especially with larger bottles. This venting screw cap removes those restrictions: the microporous 0,2 µm ePTFE membrane supports bidirectional sterile gas exchange while preventing entry of liquids or solids, so the closure can be fully tightened and still provide safe pressure equalisation. Larger vent openings further enhance gas transfer. The membrane and polypropylene mesh backing are ultrasonically welded to form a durable seal meeting USP Class VI at 121 °C. From manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences, the reusable blue GL 45 cap is intended for pressure equalisation during steam sterilisation, sterile gas exchange for aerobic microorganism, shake and suspension cell cultures, autoclaving of media and buffers, short-term storage of sterilised media and storage of gas-forming materials. Replacement after 3 to 5 autoclave cycles, or if the membrane becomes damaged or contaminated, is recommended.

Questions about DURAN® Membrane Venting Screw Cap (PP, blue), welded-in expanded PTFE membrane

What is this article?

DURAN® Membrane Venting Screw Cap (PP, blue), welded-in expanded PTFE membrane is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Screw caps & closures, inside Stoppers, caps & closures, in Labware.

A screw cap has a thread and a liner. The thread has to match the bottle. The liner has to survive the liquid: a pulp liner fails in a solvent that a PTFE-faced liner ignores. The colour of the cap is not the specification.

A closure is the part that decides whether a bottle stays shut and whether the contents attack the seal. A ground-glass stopper matches a ground neck. A screw cap needs the right thread and a liner that survives the liquid. Rubber and silicone stoppers push into a mouth. The liner, not the colour of the cap, is the chemical choice. The vessels they close are indexed under ISO laboratory glassware.
