Description

Biplanar glass filter plate, 50 mm diameter, porosity 4 is a VitraPOR® sintered disc manufactured from borosilicate glass 3.3. It has a defined thickness of 3,8 mm with a tolerance of ± 0,2 mm. Both faces are ground to achieve exact thickness and a plane-parallel surface, supporting precise fit and uniform filtration behaviour in laboratory assemblies. Supplied in packs of 10 pieces from manufacturer ROBU - Stereon, the plate is intended for integration into filter apparatus, funnels and related glassware where controlled porosity and dimensional accuracy are required. Porosity grade 4 establishes the pore structure for finer separation tasks. The 50 mm diameter matches common laboratory filter holders. Ground, plane-parallel surfaces ensure reliable sealing and consistent performance across repeated use. Borosilicate 3.3 forms the base material of the VitraPOR® filter medium. These characteristics make the biplanar plate suitable for analytical and preparative filtration workflows that demand reproducible geometry and defined porosity without additional surface finishing.

This article is part of Sintered glass filter plates & discs, in Filtration.

What is this article?

Filter Disc, bi-plane, 50 mm, Por. 4 Thickness 3.8 mm ± 0.2 mm is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes ROBU - Stereon for laboratory use. It sits in Sintered glass filter plates & discs, inside Filtration, in Lab consumables.

A sintered glass filter is a disc of fused glass particles with a porosity grade, often 0 to 5, from coarse to fine. It is cleaned and reused. The porosity number, not a micrometre guess, is the specification. Hydrofluoric acid and strong alkali attack the glass.

Filtration holds back what is larger than the pores and lets the rest through. Paper is the ordinary laboratory filter. A membrane has a stated pore size and a polymer that must survive the solvent. A syringe filter is that membrane in a housing on a syringe. Glass fibre takes a higher dirt load. Ultrafiltration holds back macromolecules and passes salts. The pore size, the chemical compatibility and the volume are the three choices. Laboratory apparatus around filtration is indexed under ISO laboratory apparatus.
