Description

Metallurgical inverted microscope KERN OLM, 171 is a professional inverted microscope for industrial materials examination. Belonging to the inverted OLM series, it features an ergonomic, robust and extra-stable design with a very large working distance, ideal for surface quality inspection of raw materials and finished goods. Powerful, continuously adjustable 50 W halogen incident illumination ensures optimal lighting of the materials under test. The series is supplied as standard with a trinocular tube, and a simple polarisation unit (analyser and polariser) is included. A large mechanical stage forms part of the standard configuration, while bilateral coarse and fine drives enable rapid, accurate focusing. Further options, including a broad range of objectives, can be integrated as accessories. A dust cover and operating manual are provided; a C-mount adapter is required separately for camera connection. Offered by manufacturer Kern, this inverted instrument is intended for metallurgy, materials testing and quality assurance on opaque and thick preparations, workpieces, surfaces, fracture edges and coatings.

This article is part of Light & fluorescence microscopes, in Microscopy & histology.

Questions about Metallurgical Inverted Microscope KERN, OLM 171

What is this article?

Metallurgical Inverted Microscope KERN, OLM 171 is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Kern for laboratory use. It sits in Light & fluorescence microscopes, inside Microscopy & histology, in Lab instruments.

A light microscope looks through a thin specimen. A fluorescence microscope adds a light source and filters matched to a dye, so only the labelled structure shows. The filter set has to match the dye's excitation and emission. A bright-field microscope without those filters cannot do that experiment.

A light microscope forms an image with glass lenses and transmitted or reflected light. A stereo microscope is the lower-magnification instrument for dissecting and for looking at a surface. Fluorescence needs a light source and filters matched to the dye. Histology is the preparation that makes a tissue readable: fixation, a cassette, a section, a stain. The objective's magnification and numerical aperture decide the resolution. The slide and the cover glass decide whether the section sits in the focal plane. Stains and dyes as substances are identified on PubChem. Papers on the methods are on PubMed.
