Description
Moisture analyser KERN DBS 60-3 is a laboratory instrument for determining sample moisture content, built around a high-quality single-cell weighing system for outstanding stability, reliability and response speed. It is suitable for samples with low moisture content, such as plastics. A backlit graphic display with 15 mm digit height shows the active drying process, elapsed drying time, current temperature, result unit, instantaneous moisture content in % and the active heating profile. Heat comes from a 400 W halogen quartz-glass radiator offering excellent temperature control for temperature-sensitive samples. Memory stores 10 automatic drying programmes and 100 completed processes; the last value remains on screen until overwritten. Password protection helps prevent manipulation of settings, and 2-digit designations for up to 99 samples print in the protocol. Date and time display plus a USB interface for PC or printer transfer are standard. This analyser from manufacturer Kern includes 50 sample pans and a protective working cover and has a net weight of 4,6 kg.
This article is part of Moisture analysers, in Balances & scales.

Questions about Moisture Analyser KERN DBS 60-3
What is this article?
Moisture Analyser KERN DBS 60-3 is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Kern for laboratory use. It sits in Moisture analysers, inside Balances & scales, in Lab instruments.
A moisture analyser is a balance with a halogen or infrared heater. It records the loss of mass as a sample dries and reports that loss as moisture. The temperature program and the sample mass decide whether the number is water or is decomposition.
A balance compares a mass with a standard. An analytical balance reads to 0.1 mg or finer and needs a draft shield and a stable bench. A precision balance is coarser and faster. A platform scale takes a heavier load. The reading is only as good as the calibration chain back to the kilogram, which is why test weights and a certificate exist. A moisture analyser is a balance with a heater: it records the loss of mass as water leaves. The unit of mass is kept by the BIPM, compared across Europe by EURAMET, and accredited by BELAC. NIST publishes the same measurement foundations.
