Description

The PH850-SL portable pH meter is a handy, straightforward instrument for measuring pH, ORP (electrode available separately, e.g. 301Pt-C) and temperature. It has been developed specifically for rapid, direct soil pH measurements. The supplied LabSen® 553 pH electrode features a pointed, robust glass membrane and a solid polymer electrolyte, allowing it to be inserted into soil without damage or diaphragm clogging. An integrated temperature sensor provides automatic temperature compensation (ATC). Enclosed in a silicone sleeve and rated IP57 for water and dust resistance, the meter from manufacturer APERA Instruments is ideal for field work in demanding outdoor conditions. A fold-out stand enables comfortable benchtop use indoors. Fast 1- to 3-point automatic calibration, a large backlit LCD that simultaneously shows pH and temperature together with calibration information, and self-diagnosis support efficient operation. Technical ranges include pH 0,00–14,00 (resolution 0,1/0,01, accuracy ±0,01 ±1 digit), mV ±1000 and temperature 0–100 °C. The instrument runs on three AA batteries, measures 88×170×33 mm and weighs 313 g (case set 360×270×76 mm / 1,3 kg). Scope of delivery comprises the PH850 meter, LabSen® 553 electrode, calibration solutions pH 4,00/7,00/10,01 (50 ml each), screwdriver, operating manual and carrying case.

Questions about PH850-SL Portable pH Meter for Soil (Direct Measurement)

What is this article?

PH850-SL Portable pH Meter for Soil (Direct Measurement) is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes APERA Instruments for laboratory use. It sits in pH meters, inside pH & electrochemistry, in Lab instruments.

A pH meter reads the electrode and displays pH, after calibration with at least two buffers. A meter that cannot be calibrated is a voltmeter. Resolution to 0.001 is not the same as accuracy. Portable and benchtop meters differ in the electrodes they accept and in the data they store.

A pH meter is a voltmeter on a glass electrode. The voltage tracks hydrogen-ion activity, and the electrode is converted to pH only after it is adjusted with buffers of known value. Conductivity measures how well a solution carries a current, which for dilute salts tracks concentration. Dissolved oxygen and titration are further electrodes on the same idea: a sensor, a standard, and a reading that is only as fresh as the calibration. Buffer values and chemical identity sit on PubChem. Accreditation of the calibration laboratory is the field of BELAC and EURAMET.
