Description

Rotilabo® magnetic stirring rod, cylindrical, is a PTFE-coated laboratory stir bar designed for reliable mixing on magnetic stirrers and hotplate stirrers. The cylindrical geometry measures 8 mm in diameter and 45 mm in length, a common size for beakers, flasks, and reaction vessels used in routine wet-chemistry work. A continuous PTFE coating protects the magnetic core and presents a chemically resistant surface toward many aqueous and organic media encountered at the bench. Supplied as a single piece, the bar is easy to dedicate to a method, solvent class, or user to reduce cross-contamination between preparations. Accessories of this type from manufacturer ROTH SELECTION complement magnetic stirring equipment in teaching labs, QC suites, and research kitchens where reproducible agitation is required without shaft-driven overhead stirrers. Smooth cylindrical ends help the bar spin freely and re-centre under typical drive fields. Compact dimensions also suit smaller vessels where longer or oval bars would be impractical, supporting dissolution, buffer preparation, and gentle suspension of solids during sample work-up.

This article is part of Magnetic stirring bars, in Stirring, shaking & mixing.

What is this article?

Rotilabo®-magn.stirring rod, cylindrical, PTFE-coated, Ø 8 mm, length 45 mm is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Carl Roth for laboratory use. It sits in Magnetic stirring bars, inside Stirring, shaking & mixing, in Lab instruments.

A magnetic stirring bar is the magnet coated in PTFE that spins inside a vessel, driven by a stirrer underneath. Length and shape, plain, oval or cross, have to suit the flask. A bar left against a dry glass wall will grind it.

Stirring keeps a mixture uniform or helps a solid dissolve. A magnetic stirrer spins a bar inside a closed vessel. An overhead stirrer drives a shaft when the liquid is viscous or the volume is large. A vortex mixer agitates a tube. A shaker moves a whole rack or a plate. The shape of the impeller and the speed decide whether the liquid turns over or merely spins. The vessels being stirred are indexed under ISO laboratory glassware.
