Description

Cannon-Fenske viscometer 3,0–15,0 mm²/s is a calibrated reverse-flow capillary instrument for determining the kinematic viscosity of opaque liquids. The glass body has a length of 295 mm and is fitted with capillary no. 100, covering the measuring range 3–15 mm²/s with an instrument constant of 0,015. Because the sample flows in the reverse-flow configuration, the meniscus remains observable even when the fluid is dark, cloudy or otherwise non-transparent, making the design especially useful for oils, suspensions and process liquids that cannot be measured reliably in ordinary suspended-level tubes. After temperature equilibration in a viscosity bath, efflux time is recorded and converted to kinematic viscosity using the supplied constant. The calibrated unit is offered as a single piece from manufacturer Witeg and has a net weight of 0,069 kg. Its compact 295 mm format fits standard laboratory baths and supports routine quality-control and research work wherever reproducible viscosity data on opaque media in the low-to-medium range are required.

This article is part of Viscometers, in Density & viscosity measurement.

Questions about Viscometers Cannon Fenske 3.0-15.0 calibrated

What is this article?

Viscometers Cannon Fenske 3.0-15.0 calibrated is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Witeg for laboratory use. It sits in Viscometers, inside Density & viscosity measurement, in Lab instruments.

A capillary viscometer times the flow of a liquid through a tube. A rotational viscometer twists a spindle in the liquid. Both need a stated temperature. Kinematic and dynamic viscosity are different numbers. The capillary size has to put the flow time in the range the method allows.

Density is mass divided by volume. A hydrometer floats at a depth that depends on the density of the liquid. A pycnometer is a vessel of known volume that is weighed full. Viscosity is the resistance to flow. A capillary viscometer times how long a volume takes to fall through a tube. Both measurements need a stated temperature, because liquids change density and viscosity as they warm. The units trace to the BIPM and to NIST.
