Description
Analogue refractometer KERN ORA 4FA is a universal, maintenance-free handheld instrument for refractive index measurement in laboratory and industrial practice. As part of the KERN ORA-F series, it offers a compact, robust build for simple, efficient long-term use. Multiple selectable scales remove the need for manual conversion and help avoid application errors; the scales are specially developed, precisely calculated and verified, with very thin, clear lines. The optical system and prism cover are manufactured from materials that support low-tolerance measuring. Automatic temperature compensation (ATC) provides accurate readings at ambient temperatures from 10 °C to 30 °C, and the eyepiece adjusts smoothly to different visual acuities. This model is particularly suited to measuring glycol concentrations, battery fluid (BF) and the freezing point of windscreen washer fluid (CW), as well as temperature-exchange systems. Main application areas include the automotive, chemical and solar industries (antifreeze control). Supplied by manufacturer Kern with storage box, calibration solution, pipette, screwdriver and cleaning cloth; further accessories are optional. Pack size is 1 pc.

Questions about Analogue Refractometer KERN ORA 4FA
What is this article?
Analogue Refractometer KERN ORA 4FA is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes KERN for laboratory use. It sits in Refractometers & polarimeters, inside Spectroscopy & photometry, in Instruments de laboratoire.
A refractometer reads the refractive index of a liquid, often expressed as Brix for sugar. A polarimeter reads the rotation of polarised light. Both depend on temperature. A handheld refractometer and a thermostated benchtop instrument are different accuracies.
A photometer or spectrophotometer sends light through a sample and reads how much was absorbed. In the range where the Beer–Lambert relation holds, absorbance tracks concentration. A refractometer reads how a liquid bends light, which tracks dissolved solids. A polarimeter reads the rotation of polarised light, the classical measurement for sugars. The lamp, the wavelength and the cuvette path length are the three things that have to be right before the number means anything. The optical quantities trace to NIST and the BIPM.
