Description

Drag pointer SAUTER 285-897 is an accessory for spring balance model 285 that records the maximum force reached during a measurement. The drag pointer consists of a plastic ring featuring a smoothly gliding Teflon layer, allowing it to be slipped easily over the scale tube. Before each measurement the pointer is moved to the zero point; under load it travels with the indicator and remains at the peak force value attained in that measuring cycle. This makes the accessory especially suitable for tear and tensile tests in which the maximum force must be retained after the load is removed. Supplied as 1 pc, the compact unit has a net weight of 0,05 kg and a gross weight of 0,05 kg. Offered by manufacturer Kern within the SAUTER accessory programme, the drag pointer provides a simple mechanical memory function without electronics. It is intended for laboratory and quality-control environments that rely on mechanical spring balances for peak-force determination. Country of origin is Switzerland. The product belongs to the category of accessories for balances and supports repeatable maximum-force indication in routine testing workflows.

This article is part of Balance accessories, calibration & certificates, in Balances & scales.

Questions about Drag Pointer SAUTER 285-897

What is this article?

Drag Pointer SAUTER 285-897 is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes KERN for laboratory use. It sits in Balance accessories, calibration & certificates, inside Balances & scales, in Instruments de laboratoire.

These are the draft shields, the pans, the ionisers, the printers and the calibration certificates that belong to a balance. A certificate states the errors found at stated loads. It does not make a different balance correct.

A balance compares a mass with a standard. An analytical balance reads to 0.1 mg or finer and needs a draft shield and a stable bench. A precision balance is coarser and faster. A platform scale takes a heavier load. The reading is only as good as the calibration chain back to the kilogram, which is why test weights and a certificate exist. A moisture analyser is a balance with a heater: it records the loss of mass as water leaves. The unit of mass is kept by the BIPM, compared across Europe by EURAMET, and accredited by BELAC. NIST publishes the same measurement foundations.
