Description

DURAN® filter disc with unfused and centred rim and unfinished surfaces is a porous sintered glass plate for laboratory filtration and separation tasks. It has a diameter of 40 mm and porosity class 0, and is made from DURAN® borosilicate glass 3.3. Controlled sintering of glass powder with a defined particle-size distribution produces a solid, permeable body that functions effectively as filter material in plate form. These discs from manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences are ideal for work with strong acids or alkalis and therefore outperform many plastic or paper media. Available in six porosity classes conforming to ISO 4796 and ASTM E128-99, correct porosity choice ensures the largest pore width remains slightly smaller than the finest particles to be retained. The unfinished surfaces and unfused rim prepare the glass article for further processing into custom filtration apparatus. Suitable for vacuum filtration at a maximum resulting pressure difference of 1 bar, the discs are supplied in packs of 10 pieces for laboratory and workshop applications.

This article is part of Sintered glass filter plates & discs, in Filtration.

Questions about DURAN® Filter Disc, sintered glass, edge not fused, centred, surfaces untreated

What is this article?

DURAN® Filter Disc, sintered glass, edge not fused, centred, surfaces untreated is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Sintered glass filter plates & discs, inside Filtration, in Lab consumables.

A sintered glass filter is a disc of fused glass particles with a porosity grade, often 0 to 5, from coarse to fine. It is cleaned and reused. The porosity number, not a micrometre guess, is the specification. Hydrofluoric acid and strong alkali attack the glass.

Filtration holds back what is larger than the pores and lets the rest through. Paper is the ordinary laboratory filter. A membrane has a stated pore size and a polymer that must survive the solvent. A syringe filter is that membrane in a housing on a syringe. Glass fibre takes a higher dirt load. Ultrafiltration holds back macromolecules and passes salts. The pore size, the chemical compatibility and the volume are the three choices. Laboratory apparatus around filtration is indexed under ISO laboratory apparatus.
