Description
DURAN® filter disc with unfused and centred rim and unfinished surfaces is a sintered porous glass plate manufactured from borosilicate glass 3.3. With a diameter of 50 mm and porosity class 1, the disc is formed by sintering glass powder of defined particle size distribution into a solid porous body that serves as filtration material. This component from manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences is well suited to separations involving strong acids or alkalis and provides advantages compared with plastic or paper filter media. It belongs to a range offered in six different porosity classes in accordance with ISO 4796 as well as ASTM E128-99. Successful filtration depends on correct porosity selection so that the largest pore width remains slightly below the particle size of the smallest solids still to be retained. Intended as a glass article for further processing, the disc is suitable for vacuum filtration with a maximum resulting pressure difference of 1 bar. The unfused and centred rim combined with unfinished surfaces supports incorporation into laboratory filtration assemblies requiring chemically resistant borosilicate glass.

Questions about DURAN® Filter Disc, sintered glass, edge not fused, centred, surfaces untreated
What is this article?
DURAN® Filter Disc, sintered glass, edge not fused, centred, surfaces untreated is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Sintered glass filter plates & discs, inside Filtration, in Lab consumables.
A sintered glass filter is a disc of fused glass particles with a porosity grade, often 0 to 5, from coarse to fine. It is cleaned and reused. The porosity number, not a micrometre guess, is the specification. Hydrofluoric acid and strong alkali attack the glass.
Filtration holds back what is larger than the pores and lets the rest through. Paper is the ordinary laboratory filter. A membrane has a stated pore size and a polymer that must survive the solvent. A syringe filter is that membrane in a housing on a syringe. Glass fibre takes a higher dirt load. Ultrafiltration holds back macromolecules and passes salts. The pore size, the chemical compatibility and the volume are the three choices. Laboratory apparatus around filtration is indexed under ISO laboratory apparatus.
