Description

DURAN® flat-bottom flask with NS 29/32 joint and 500 ml nominal volume is a laboratory vessel made of borosilicate glass 3.3. It is a form variant of the round-bottom flask and features a flattened base that allows the flask to stand freely without a support ring. The standard ground joint ensures a precise, tight connection to complementary ground-joint components such as columns, thermometers, dropping funnels and stoppers. Owing to their geometry these flasks are suitable only for pressureless work. Special characteristics include the dense seal provided by the standard ground joint and a fired-on white printed marking that remains permanently durable. Typical applications are the dilution of solutions and heating operations. This 500 ml NS 29/32 model from manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences is supplied as a single piece; the manufacturer notes that volume sizes 250 ml (NS 24/29), 500 ml (NS 24/29), 1000 ml (NS 24/29) and 2000 ml (NS 29/32) are not manufactured according to DIN ISO. The registered trademark is DURAN®.

Questions about DURAN® Flat Bottom Flask, with standard ground joint

What is this article?

DURAN® Flat Bottom Flask, with standard ground joint is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Round-bottom flasks, inside Beakers & flasks, in Labware.

A round-bottom flask is the heating flask of a distillation or a reflux. The curved wall takes the heat, and the ground neck connects to a still head or a condenser. The joint size, not only the volume, has to match the rest of the set.

A beaker is an open working vessel: easy to pour, poor as a measure. An Erlenmeyer flask has a flat base and a conical wall so a liquid can be swirled without climbing out. A round-bottom flask is for heating under a condenser, because the heat meets a curved wall and the joint at the neck connects to the rest of the glassware. Borosilicate is the glass that survives the temperature change. These forms are listed under ISO laboratory glassware.
