Description

DURAN® round-bottom flask with NS 24/29 joint and 0,5 l nominal volume is a versatile borosilicate glass 3.3 vessel for everyday laboratory heating, cooling and vacuum work. The spherical geometry promotes uniform heat distribution when the flask is used with heating mantles or liquid baths, while the ground joint ensures a tight, interchangeable connection to columns, thermometers, dropping funnels and other standard joint components. Media can be warmed or cooled as required; point heating or cooling should be avoided, and for vacuum service the glass surface must be free from impacts or deep scratches. The permanent white printed marking remains legible through repeated use, and the neck can be closed with glass or plastic stoppers. Typical applications include distillation, extraction, evaporation of liquids, drying of materials and mounting on stands. Volume and joint combination for this article is 500 ml with NS 24/29; selected other sizes in the range are noted as not conforming to DIN ISO. Supplied from manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences in a practical multipack for routine laboratory stocking.

This article is part of Round-bottom flasks, in Beakers & flasks. See also Flat-bottom flasks.

Questions about DURAN® Round Bottom Flask, with standard ground joint

What is this article?

DURAN® Round Bottom Flask, with standard ground joint is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Round-bottom flasks, inside Beakers & flasks, in Labware.

A round-bottom flask is the heating flask of a distillation or a reflux. The curved wall takes the heat, and the ground neck connects to a still head or a condenser. The joint size, not only the volume, has to match the rest of the set.

A beaker is an open working vessel: easy to pour, poor as a measure. An Erlenmeyer flask has a flat base and a conical wall so a liquid can be swirled without climbing out. A round-bottom flask is for heating under a condenser, because the heat meets a curved wall and the joint at the neck connects to the rest of the glassware. Borosilicate is the glass that survives the temperature change. These forms are listed under ISO laboratory glassware.
