Description

VitraPOR® glass filter plate with porosity 4 is a precision sintered disc made from borosilicate glass 3.3 for laboratory filtration and apparatus construction. It has a diameter of 170 mm and a thickness of 13,0 mm with a tolerance of ± 3,0 mm. The plate is round and centred, with an untreated surface that is ready for mounting in custom glassware, filter holders or process assemblies. Borosilicate 3.3 offers the chemical resistance and thermal stability expected in routine aqueous and many organic laboratory media. Porosity grade 4 is intended for finer filtration duties where tighter particle retention and controlled flow are required. Available as a single piece from manufacturer ROBU - Stereon, this VitraPOR® frit provides a defined geometry without additional surface finishing. The untreated, round-centred format supports straightforward sealing in joints, flanges or support rings. Typical uses include preparative filtration, gas dispersion setups and the build-up of specialised glass apparatus in research and industrial laboratories that need reproducible dimensional and porosity characteristics.

This article is part of Sintered glass filter plates & discs, in Filtration.

What is this article?

Filter Disc, centered, 170 mm, Por. 4 Thickness 13 mm ± 3.0 mm is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes ROBU - Stereon for laboratory use. It sits in Sintered glass filter plates & discs, inside Filtration, in Lab consumables.

A sintered glass filter is a disc of fused glass particles with a porosity grade, often 0 to 5, from coarse to fine. It is cleaned and reused. The porosity number, not a micrometre guess, is the specification. Hydrofluoric acid and strong alkali attack the glass.

Filtration holds back what is larger than the pores and lets the rest through. Paper is the ordinary laboratory filter. A membrane has a stated pore size and a polymer that must survive the solvent. A syringe filter is that membrane in a housing on a syringe. Glass fibre takes a higher dirt load. Ultrafiltration holds back macromolecules and passes salts. The pore size, the chemical compatibility and the volume are the three choices. Laboratory apparatus around filtration is indexed under ISO laboratory apparatus.
