Description

Rotor FA-45-20-17 packed is a fixed-angle rotor supplied complete with rotor lid for high-speed processing of Eppendorf Tubes® 5,0 mL. It provides 20 places for standard 5,0 mL tubes; when screw-cap 5,0 mL tubes are used, capacity is limited to 10 vessels. Maximum speed reaches 20.913 × g (13,100 rpm), supporting demanding separation workflows in molecular biology and clinical sample preparation.

This article is part of Rotors, in Centrifuges.

The aerosol-tight Eppendorf QuickLock® rotor lid helps contain samples during centrifugation. Rotor, lid and adapters are autoclavable at 121 °C for 20 min, supporting routine decontamination. The anodised aluminium construction offers high chemical resistance in daily laboratory use. This rotor from manufacturer Eppendorf is intended for Centrifuge 5804/5804 R and Centrifuge 5810/5810 R; older instruments may require a software upgrade before use. Aerosol tightness has been tested by Public Health England, Porton Down (UK). The unit is delivered packed as a complete rotor assembly for straightforward installation on compatible 58xx centrifuges.

Questions about Fixed-angle rotor FA-45-20-17 (58xx)

What is this article?

Fixed-angle rotor FA-45-20-17 (58xx) is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Eppendorf for laboratory use. It sits in Rotors, inside Centrifuges, in Lab instruments.

A centrifuge rotor is the rotating part that holds the tubes, and it is rated for a maximum speed and a maximum load. A swing-out rotor and a fixed-angle rotor pellet differently. A rotor from another centrifuge does not belong on this drive, even when it seems to fit.

A centrifuge separates by density. The rotor spins the sample and the force is reported as a multiple of gravity, not as a raw speed, because the same revolutions per minute are a different force at a different radius. A microcentrifuge takes small tubes. A benchtop or floor model takes larger rotors. The tube, the adapter and the rotor have to be the combination the manufacturer rated. An unbalanced load is how centrifuges fail. Measurement of the related quantities sits with the BIPM.
