Description

BS/IP/RF U-tube reverse flow viscometer 11 is a precision capillary instrument for kinematic viscosity determination in the elevated range 60000–300000 mm²/s with a viscometer constant K of 300. The reverse-flow U-tube configuration is particularly advantageous for opaque, dark or very viscous liquids, allowing reliable timing of flow where conventional designs may be impractical. Each unit is supplied with a factory calibration certificate and conforms to BS/IP/RF together with ASTM D445-446 and ISO 3104-3105, ensuring traceable and comparable laboratory results. Produced by Irmeco, the glass viscometer has a net weight of 0,1 kg and is offered as a single piece for installation in a controlled-temperature bath. It is intended for quality-control, research and industrial laboratories working with heavy oils, bituminous materials, polymers and other high-viscosity products that require accurate kinematic viscosity data according to recognised international standards.

This article is part of Viscometers, in Density & viscosity measurement.

Questions about Viscometer

What is this article?

Viscometer is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Irmeco for laboratory use. It sits in Viscometers, inside Density & viscosity measurement, in Lab instruments.

A capillary viscometer times the flow of a liquid through a tube. A rotational viscometer twists a spindle in the liquid. Both need a stated temperature. Kinematic and dynamic viscosity are different numbers. The capillary size has to put the flow time in the range the method allows.

Density is mass divided by volume. A hydrometer floats at a depth that depends on the density of the liquid. A pycnometer is a vessel of known volume that is weighed full. Viscosity is the resistance to flow. A capillary viscometer times how long a volume takes to fall through a tube. Both measurements need a stated temperature, because liquids change density and viscosity as they warm. The units trace to the BIPM and to NIST.
