Description

Microscope slides made of soda-lime glass are cut slides with a frosted end, produced to standard dimensions of 26 mm × 76 mm and 1 mm thickness in accordance with ISO 8037-1. The glass exhibits high optical homogeneity and is essentially free from bubbles, streaks, inclusions and surface defects thanks to a controlled manufacturing process, delivering excellent planarity and thickness distribution for microscopy. Uniform edges reduce breakage risk and glass splinters, while consistent wettability supports staining and mounting procedures. These slides from manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences (DURAN®) are universally suited to tissue sections, cytological preparations and routine microscopy, including use in staining or coverslipping instruments. They are non-sterile and intended for general laboratory microscopy where clear, defect-free optics are essential. The frosted margin allows easy specimen labelling. With tight dimensional tolerances, refocusing of the microscope is rarely required, making the slides practical for both manual and automated workflows in pathology, biology and materials examination.

Questions about Microscope Slides, from soda-lime glass

What is this article?

Microscope Slides, from soda-lime glass is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Microscope slides & cover glasses, inside Microscopy & histology, in Lab instruments.

A slide is the glass a specimen sits on. A cover glass is the thin sheet over it, of a thickness the objective was designed for. A cover glass of the wrong thickness softens the image. Charged and plain slides hold sections differently.

A light microscope forms an image with glass lenses and transmitted or reflected light. A stereo microscope is the lower-magnification instrument for dissecting and for looking at a surface. Fluorescence needs a light source and filters matched to the dye. Histology is the preparation that makes a tissue readable: fixation, a cassette, a section, a stain. The objective's magnification and numerical aperture decide the resolution. The slide and the cover glass decide whether the section sits in the focal plane. Stains and dyes as substances are identified on PubChem. Papers on the methods are on PubMed.
