AOD 1 digestion system is intended for the combustion digestion of liquid and solid organic and partly inorganic samples under pressure in a closed system. Its functional principle follows the bomb digestion method according to DIN 51577-1 and supports quantitative digestion of all halogens, sulphur and volatile metals such as arsenic and mercury. Combustion products are absorbed in an aqueous medium, while a self-regenerating catalytic inner wall of the digestion vessel assists the oxidation process. The pressure vessel is manufactured from high-alloy stainless steel, reaches digestion temperatures up to 1200 °C and withstands a maximum pressure of 195 bar, with digestion times under three minutes. The complete system from manufacturer IKA comprises the AOD 1.1 FZ digestion vessel, C 48 oxygen station, AOD 1.2 remote ignition device and AOD 1.11 control standard (50 ml). A protective device is required for safe operation; the vessel can be converted for the C 14 disposable crucible. Control standards for chlorine and sulphur are included, and combustion gases may be directed into an absorption vessel via the C 7030 venting station. Further relevant norms include DIN/EN 14582 and DIN 51727.
