Description
The portable seawater digital refractometer HI96822 determines the salinity of natural and artificial seawater by refractive-index measurement. It reports results in practical salinity units, parts per thousand and specific gravity: 0 to 50 PSU, 0 to 150 g/L (ppt) and specific gravity 1,000 to 1,114, with resolutions of 1 PSU, 1 g/L (ppt) and 0,001 specific gravity, and accuracies of ±2 PSU, ±2 g/L (ppt) and ±0,002 specific gravity. Temperature measurement spans 0 to 80 °C at 0,1 °C resolution with ±0,3 °C accuracy; automatic temperature compensation works from 10 to 40 °C and a reading is obtained in about 1,5 seconds. Only two drops of sample are needed to cover the stainless-steel ring and glass prism illuminated by a yellow LED. Simple calibration is performed with distilled or deionized water. A large dual-line display, few-key operation, BEPS battery-error prevention, automatic shut-off after three minutes of non-use and an IP65 housing support reliable field and laboratory work. This compact instrument from manufacturer Hanna Instruments measures 192 × 102 × 67 mm, weighs 420 g, runs on one 9 V battery for approximately 5000 operating hours, and is supplied as a single unit.

Questions about Digital refractometer for Seawater analysis
What is this article?
Digital refractometer for Seawater analysis is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Hanna Instruments for laboratory use. It sits in Conductivity meters & cells, inside pH & electrochemistry, in Instruments de précision.
A conductivity meter and its cell measure how well a solution carries current. The cell constant is the geometry that converts conductance to conductivity, and it is calibrated with a standard. Temperature compensation matters because conductivity rises with temperature.
A pH meter is a voltmeter on a glass electrode. The voltage tracks hydrogen-ion activity, and the electrode is converted to pH only after it is adjusted with buffers of known value. Conductivity measures how well a solution carries a current, which for dilute salts tracks concentration. Dissolved oxygen and titration are further electrodes on the same idea: a sensor, a standard, and a reading that is only as fresh as the calibration. Buffer values and chemical identity sit on PubChem. Accreditation of the calibration laboratory is the field of BELAC and EURAMET.
