Description

Phase contrast microscope KERN OBL 156 is a high-quality instrument specially preconfigured for general phase-contrast applications and designed for flexible modular expansion. The robust OBL-series build provides a stable platform with many upgrade paths for routine and specialised laboratory use. Continuously dimmable 3 W LED illumination works together with a height-focusable, fixed pre-centred phase contrast condenser and field diaphragm to deliver simplified Köhler illumination and strong phase-contrast visualisation of the sample. The large mechanical stage and specimen holder accept up to two preparations simultaneously, while bilateral coaxial coarse and fine drives enable fast, accurate focusing. Eyepieces, objectives, colour filters, a simple polarisation unit and additional phase-contrast units are offered as accessories from manufacturer Kern. Delivery includes a dust cover, eyecups and a multilingual operating manual; a C-mount adapter is required for camera connection. Application fields span haematology, urology, gynaecology, dermatology, pathology, microbiology and parasitology, immunology, sewage plants, oncology, entomology, veterinary work, water analysis and breweries. The microscope is particularly suited to very translucent, thin, low-contrast and demanding specimens such as living mammalian cells, bacteria and tissue under phase contrast.

This article is part of Microscope objectives, eyepieces & optics, in Microscopy & histology.

Questions about Phase Contrast Microscope KERN OBL 156

What is this article?

Phase Contrast Microscope KERN OBL 156 is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Kern for laboratory use. It sits in Microscope objectives, eyepieces & optics, inside Microscopy & histology, in Lab instruments.

An objective makes the resolution. Magnification and numerical aperture are the two numbers, and the tube length or the infinity correction has to match the microscope. An eyepiece mostly enlarges the image the objective already resolved. A mismatched objective does not become sharper by zooming.

A light microscope forms an image with glass lenses and transmitted or reflected light. A stereo microscope is the lower-magnification instrument for dissecting and for looking at a surface. Fluorescence needs a light source and filters matched to the dye. Histology is the preparation that makes a tissue readable: fixation, a cassette, a section, a stain. The objective's magnification and numerical aperture decide the resolution. The slide and the cover glass decide whether the section sits in the focal plane. Stains and dyes as substances are identified on PubChem. Papers on the methods are on PubMed.
